Curtis Caroll is the 2009 Chess Champion of South Dakota.

(R) Jerry John Casteel III is the Junior Champ from Rapid City. (R) Curtis Caroll from Eagle Butte is the 2009 State Champ.

This is the third time Mr. Caroll has been the state Champ with winning the title back in 1995 and 1997.

The SD Closed was held at the SDSM&T in Rapid City on Sept. 19-20.
