Tournament Rounds (begin after opening announcements at 9 am)

Each student will play five matches (four matches for the K-12 section).  No one will be eliminated.  Students should keep score on provided score sheets, and provide results to Results Table immediately after matches are completed.  Students should raise hand during games if they have questions or concerns for Tournament Director. Results normally are not changed after result sheet is turned in.

Rounds for the K-3, K-5, and K-8 sections will begin at 9:30am. Additional rounds are scheduled for 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:30pm, and 4:00pm. These matches will be time controlled (G/40 - each player has 40 minutes for all their moves).  Rounds for the K-12 section will begin at 9:30am.  Additional rounds are scheduled for 11:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm. These matches will be time controlled (G/60 - each player has 60 minutes for all their moves).

Awards

Trophies will be awarded to the top five individual finishers in each of the sections – Primary (K-3), Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8), and High School (K-12).  Team trophies will go to the top three schools in each of these sections (team scores based on top four players. Must have at least 2 players to qualify as team in K-3, K-5, and K-8 sections).  As part of the SD State Scholastic Chess Championships, the SDCA will designate the top finishers as the official SDCA representatives for the Arnold Denker (must be in High School) & Susan Polgar (K-12, or next lower section, and must be a girl) national tournaments, respectively. Award presentations to immediately follow completion of tournament.
