Sully Avenue, Pierre, SD (click here) to see pdf flyer Tournament Rounds (begin after opening announcements at 9 am) Each student will play five matches (four matches for the K-12 section). No one will be eliminated. Students should keep score on provided score sheets, and provide results to Results Table immediately after matches are completed. Students should raise hand during games if they have questions or concerns for Tournament Director. Results normally are not changed after result sheet is turned in. Rounds for the K-3, K-5, and K-8 sections will begin at 9:30am. Additional rounds are scheduled for 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:30pm, and 4:00pm. These matches will be time controlled (G/40 - each player has 40 minutes for all their moves). Rounds for the K-12 section will begin at 9:30am. Additional rounds are scheduled for 11:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm. These matches will be time controlled (G/60 - each player has 60 minutes for all their moves). Awards Trophies will be awarded to the top five individual finishers in each of the sections – Primary (K-3), Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8), and High School (K-12). Team trophies will go to the top three schools in each of these sections (team scores based on top four players. Must have at least 2 players to qualify as team in K-3, K-5, and K-8 sections). As part of the SD State Scholastic Chess Championships, the SDCA will designate the top finishers as the official SDCA representatives for the Arnold Denker (must be in High School) & Susan Polgar (K-12, or next lower section, and must be a girl) national tournaments, respectively. Award presentations to immediately follow completion of tournament. Registration Information Only SD scholastic chess players (public, private, or home-school) are eligible to participate in this tournament. Advance entries must be postmarked by March 22, 2009, or e-mailed by March 24, 2009. Make checks payable to the “South Dakota Chess Association (SDCA).” Cost $12.00, plus U.S. Chess Federation membership, if applicable (see below). Students who do not pre-register may register at the tournament from 8:00 – 9:00 am. On-site registration will cost $15.00 (plus USCF membership, if applicable). Grandmaster Alex Yermolinsky of Sioux Falls, SD, will be conducting a GM Simul on Friday, March 26, 2010, from 6-9 pm, in the Walden Room at the Teton Island Conference Center (attached to the AmericInn Hotel in Fort Pierre, SD), for any SD scholastic chess players. Come and join us for this fun warm-up event with the two-time U.S. Chess Champion before the state championships on Saturday. Who knows, maybe the GM will give you Queens odds!
