Tournament Rounds (begin after opening announcements at 9 am MST)
Each student will play five matches (four matches for the K-12 section). No one will be eliminated. Students should keep score on provided score sheets, and provide results to Results Table immediately after matches are completed. Students should raise hand during games if they have questions or concerns for Tournament Director. Results normally are not changed after result sheet is turned in.
Rounds for the K-3, K-5, and K-8 sections will begin at 9:30am. Additional rounds are scheduled for 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:30pm, and 4:00pm. These matches will be time controlled (G/40 - each player has 40 minutes for all their moves). Rounds for the K-12 section will begin at 9:30am. Additional rounds are scheduled for 11:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm. These matches will be time controlled (G/60 - each player has 60 minutes for all their moves).
Awards
Trophies will be awarded to the top five individual finishers in each of the sections – Primary (K-3), Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8), and High School (K-12). Team trophies will go to the top three schools in each of these sections (team scores based on top four players. Must have at least 2 players to qualify as team in K-3, K-5, and K-8 sections). As part of the SD State Scholastic Chess Championships, the SDCA may designate the top high school finisher as the official SDCA representative for the 2011 Arnold Denker National Tournament of High School Champions. Award presentations to immediately follow completion of tournament.
Registration Information
Only SD scholastic chess players (public, private, or home-school) are eligible to participate in this tournament. Advance entries must be postmarked by March 28, 2011, or e-mailed by March 30, 2011. Make checks payable to the “South Dakota Chess Association (SDCA).” Cost $12.00, plus U.S. Chess Federation membership, if applicable (see below). Students who do not pre-register may register at the tournament from 8:00 – 9:00 am. On-site registration will cost $15.00 (plus USCF membership, if applicable). The SDCA is proud to announce our partnership with the Radisson Hotel Rapid City as our venue for the 2011 SD Scholastic Chess Championships! The Radisson is offering special lodging rates for participants and their families attending this tournament. $89 per night + tax, just ask for the chess rate for the “2011 SD Scholastic Chess Championships.” Reservations should be made at least 30 days in advance (NLT 03/02/11) to ensure this special rate. This rate will apply for lodging on both 04/01/10 & 04/02/10. The rate may not apply past the 03/02/11 due date for reservations, and will be subject to room availability.
