Tournament Rounds

Players in the K-3 and K-5 divisions will play five (5) games. K-12 division players will play four (4). No one will be eliminated. Players will record their moves on a score sheet to the best of their ability.  Touch move will be enforced.

Rounds for the K-3 & K-5 divisions will begin at 9:00 am, 10:30 am; 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:30 pm (5 rounds). These games will be time controlled (each player has 40 minutes on their clocks). Rounds for the K-12 division start at 9:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm & 3:00pm (each player has 60 minutes on their clock)

Awards:

Trophies will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers in each of the three (3) divisions- Primary (K-3); Elementary (K-5); & Secondary (K-12). In addition, a team trophy will go to the top school in each division. Teams must consist of 2 or more players to win a team trophy.  Team scores are based on top two to four player’s cumulative scores. 

Also, the top finisher in K-12 division will win the right to represent South Dakota at the Susan Polgar National Open for Girls. The South Dakota Chess Association graciously donates a partial sponsorship to help off-set some of the expenses.

Registration Information:

Entries must be postmarked by February 24 or e-mailed by February 26. Make checks payable to SDCA.   Cost: $12.00, plus U.S. Chess Federation membership if applicable (see below). K-3 players do not need to be USCF members. Students who do not pre-register may register at the tournament from 7:30-8:30 a.m.  Registration at site will cost $15.00 (plus USCF membership if applicable).
